Allmannajuvet, with its characteristic landscape and rich cultural history, is one of the 10 largest attractions along the National Tourist Routes. Allmannajuvet began operating in 1881 but twenty years—and 12,000 tons of zinc ore—later, the zinc market took a turn for the worse, leading the mine’s closure. 115 years later Zumthor designed a series of buildings for the site of the former Allmannajuvet zinc mines in Sauda, and they opened to the public for the first time in late 2016.
